Collee Hammock

Collee Hammock is synonymous with arguably the most well known boulevard in all of Fort Lauderdale, Las Olas Boulevard. The Collee Hammock neighborhood is located south of East Broward Boulevard, and north of the Intracoastal's New River waterway. If you have a dog Collee Hammock Park is a great place to go for a walk!

Clearly the draw of living in Collee Hammock would be the neighborhoods proximity to Las Olas Boulevard, the office buildings of Downtown, as well as the short distance to Fort Lauderdale Beach. If you like great restaurants and shopping, Collee Hammock is an excellent location for your next home. The real estate in the neighborhood is a very diverse mix. The area is comprised mainly of single family homes, however there are a small handful of existing apartment buildings in Collee Hammock.

There is a lot of history behind the neighborhood, part of that history is the Stranahan House. There are many historic homes that are maintained in Collee Hammock. The Riverside Hotel maintains it's historic feel, though new development has sprouted around all sides of it. The neighborhood was named for James Louis Collee, an engineer who worked for Mary Brickell. If you look at the railroad tracks that run to the west of Collee Hammock they run in an odd pattern. The reason is because Mary Brickell refused to allow Henry Flagler to run his railroad too close to her beloved Collee Hammock neighborhood.
